Piazzolla

The Duo Piazzolla was founded in 1996 by Isabelle Héroux, guitarist and Patrick Healey, flautist. Since then, they have recorded several times for the CBC and have a recital, which is regularly featured on Bravo. Together, they have recorded “Music from Around the World” on the SNE label and “Music by Georges Delerue for Flute and Guitar” on the DCM Classical label.  Their highly acclaimed and sensitive performances have aroused the enthusiasm of music lovers and critics alike.


Old classmates from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, they were both granted a Premier prix à l’unanimité in performance. Later, Patrick Healey obtained a Masters in Performance, a Diplôme d’études supérieures spécialisées in orchestral training as well as a Doctorate in piccolo from the University of Montreal. He has been playing the piccolo with the National Arts Centre Orchestra since 2002 and regularly plays with L’ Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, L’Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, the Metropolitan Orchestra of Greater Montreal and is a member of l’Ensemble En-le-vent. He recorded “Canto del piccolo”, a group solo works for piccolo on the XXI-21 label as well as Flûte and Oboe Music by Georges Delerue on the DCM Classical label.


Isabelle Héroux was awarded a Diplôme supérieur de concertiste from l’École Normale de Musique de Paris, where she studied with Alberto Ponce and a doctorate in instrumental didactic from l’Université Laval.  She is an active soloist and chamber player. With Duo Alba, she has travelled to several countries in Europe, on the American Continent and in Africa.  She has recorded a solo album: “Regard”, on the XXI-21 label and ¡Viva Espana! with Duo Alba, on the Atma label.  An established instructor, she teaches at the Université de Sherbrooke and publishes didactic works.


Together, the musicians of Duo Piazzolla have been granted many awards: Mac Abbie Foundation, O.F.Q.J., F.C.A.R., Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Ministère de la Culture et des communication du Québec.  They have distinguished themselves at national and international competitions. The duo has rencently returned from a tour of Western Africa.
